Radiance

My 12-year-old went wild with the row of tiny icicles along our roof. They’re back! It takes me a moment to figure out what she’s saying. When I do, I jam on my boots, step out, and reach up for two tiny sticks of ice.

Inside our sunny kitchen, I offer her the icicles. She shares them with her kitten. The ice melts quickly – it disappears to wet fur, and then that’s all.

The kitten wraps his paws in stray yarn. Our day moves along. First sprinkles of snow: beautiful.

What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.

  1. Wow!!!! In our mountain town the nights got chilli to even turn on the heat, and early morning at the creek show signs of frost, and we are still drawn to the 85F degrees in Phoenix down the road to pick some citrus fruit off bird filled green lemon trees. 🙂

  2. Wow is right! 85F? We had 13 degrees this morning – nippy to say the least. Somehow, though, since the first snow is just so darn beautiful, I can’t help but welcome winter’s beginning. I think it helps, though, that the snow was just a dusting, and not three soggy feet.
